Many fans are looking forward to the Geometry Dash 2.2 upgrade, but when will it be released? Unfortunately, no firm date for the Geometry Dash 2.2 update has been provided, although previous upgrades have delivered new levels, achievements, and a new game mode. The most recent significant update (version 2.11) was released over three years ago, and it mostly focused on quality-of-life enhancements such as bug repairs, gameplay changes, and upgrades to the in-game editor, but we have high hopes for the future release. Keep checking back because we’ll make sure to update this page when new information becomes available.

HISTORY OF GEOMETRY DASH
GEOMETRY JUMP: PRE-RELEASE (APRIL 2013)
Geometry Dash’s prototype was Geometry Jump. Ultimate Destruction, a level that has since been removed, included a song by TMM43 with the same name.
Due to copyright concerns with the song’s writer, the level was never included in the final game. Using DJVI’s song Base After Base, the level was remixed and made into what is currently known as Base After Base. According to RobTop Games’ Geometry Dash inventor Robert Topala, the original level might have a chance to make it into the game, but it’s unlikely. In the game, the word Ultimate is spelt “Ultiate,” which is a misprint.
GEOMETRY DASH 1.0 (AUGUST 2013)
Geometry Dash 1.0 was the first version of the game to be publicly released, and it was available for iOS and Android devices. There were seven levels in the game, each with its own soundtrack. In reality, each level was given a name based on the music that was played there:
Stereo Madness by Forever Bound
Back on Track by DJVI
Polargeist by Step
Dry Out by DJVI
Base After Base by DJVI
Can’t Let Go by DJVI
Jumper by Waterflame
Geometry Dash was built on the foundation of these levels, which contained extremely few items.
GEOMETRY DASH 1.1 (OCTOBER 2013)
With the second Geometry Dash update, a new level called Time Machine was added. It was called after the soundtrack for the level, which was composed by musician Waterflame, as is customary. New objects were introduced, including mirror portals that reversed the level’s path. In addition, a “lite” version of Geometry Dash with only one level, Stereo Madness, was produced.
GEOMETRY DASH 1.2 (OCTOBER 2013)
Gravity Ball, a new game mode in the third version of Geometry Dash, changed gravity when the screen was tapped. Geometry Dash has three different game modes: cube mode, ship/rocket mode, and gravity mode. The song Cycles by DJVI was also used to introduce the 9th level, Cycles. Back on Track was added to the lite version.
GEOMETRY DASH 1.3 (NOVEMBER 2013)
Version 1.3 added a new level called xStep, which featured DJVI’s song xStep. The star system was the most significant addition in this edition. When levels were finished, players received stars. Levels that were easier received fewer stars than those that were more difficult.
GEOMETRY DASH 1.4 (DECEMBER 2013)
The sixth major update to Geometry Dash added a new level called Clutterfunk, which used the Waterflame song Clutterfunk. The size portal, which shrank the player, introduced a new game mechanic.
GEOMETRY DASH 1.5 (DECEMBER 2013)
The sixth major update to Geometry Dash included a new level called Theory of Everything, which had a DJ-Nate-composed title music. In addition, the UFO game mode was added, which increased upward velocity with each tap. It’s possible that the game Flappy Bird influenced this. Purple jump rings were also included in Theory of Everything, resulting in smaller jumps than yellow and blue jump rings. There was also a new “Demon” rating for custom levels in this version, though no Demon levels were created until 1.6.
GEOMETRY DASH 1.6 (MARCH 2014)
In March 2014, Geometry Dash had its seventh major update, which included new features and two new levels. The tunes were produced by Waterflame and DJ-Nate, and the levels were dubbed Electroman Adventures and Clubstep, respectively. The first official Demon level was Clubstep.
The addition of three mystery coins per level was a significant feature in this version. Players may obtain icons, ships, balls, and UFOs by collecting coins. In addition, map packs with three levels each were introduced. In addition, in this version, additional blocks were included that would dissolve when the player neared them.
GEOMETRY DASH 1.7 (2014)
Electrodynamix, a new level, and new gameplay features were added in version 1.7. Portals that caused the player to speed up or slow down were among the new features. This became a crucial component of a few custom levels.
GEOMETRY DASH 1.8 (2014)
With version 1.8, a new mode dubbed “Dual Mode” was introduced, which added an additional inverted player icon. Hexagon Force, a new level, was also included. Finally, slanted and sloped blocks were included, making future improvements more helpful.
GEOMETRY DASH 1.9 (2014)
Blast Processing and Theory of Everything 2 were added to the 10th update of Geometry Dash. “Wave Mode” was a key addition in version 1.9. Touching the screen in Wave Mode allows the player to control vertical movement. The player icon went up when you touched the screen, and when you let go, it went down. The second official Demon level was Theory of Everything 2. The level Time Machine was introduced to Geometry Dash Lite.
GEOMETRY DASH 2.0 (AUGUST 2015)
Geometry Dash 2.0 was finally launched after nearly a year of waiting. Deadlocked and Geometrical Dominator are two new stages.
The most significant update in the game’s history, it included a slew of new blocks and features to the level editor, including the ability to increase the number of colors from four to infinity. It also added the move block, which allows you to move items with a single block. Moving things in 1.9 was a lot more difficult.
The dragon spike, which chomped at the player, was included as a new sort of spike. The green jump ring, which switches gravity, was included as a new type of jump ring. A new mode called “Robot Mode” was also added. There are a lot of new backgrounds and ground sprites, as well as the possibility to make your own. Ships, balls, UFOs, waves, and robot icons were all presented as new icons. In addition, 2.0 included the ability to teleport players.
F-777 made his Geometry Dash debut as an EDM composer. A new sort of user coin was introduced, with the same qualities as a standard secret coin but the ability to be utilized in custom levels. In version 2.0, keys were introduced, which could result in a level chain reaction.
GEOMETRY DASH 2.1 (JANUARY 2017)
The most current update is Geometry Dash 2.1. It was a substantial update that came out approximately a year and a half after the previous version, featuring almost half a dozen new features. For the game, a new level named Fingerdash was created.
“Spider Mode,” which rapidly moved the player to the top or bottom of the screen, was a key highlight of 2.1. Over 100 new icons, a reward system, quests, a red orb that propelled players higher in the air than ever before, and a black orb that plummeted players to the bottom were all introduced in version 2.1.
This edition also included a new 4x speed portal, new icon stores, a vault system with codes to unlock icons, new demon difficulty levels, and much more. Finally, new editor features were added, allowing custom levels to progress even farther. To say the least, it was a major update.
GEOMETRY DASH 2.2 (UNKNOWN)
Fans of Geometry Dash have been waiting patiently for a new version since early 2017. It’s uncertain whether or not the author will issue a new update.
The good news is that RobTop Games has lately started releasing Geometry Dash teases for upcoming features. In May 2019, the RobTop Games Twitter account and YouTube channel both released films demonstrating several new level editor elements, such as the scale and random triggers. “Something small to demonstrate I’m alive… _()_/,” read the caption of one YouTube video.
The news is encouraging, but the wait continues. Fans of Geometry Dash should check out the Fandom page on 2.2 for updates.

GEOMETRY DASH GETS FIRST TO UPDATE IN NEARLY HALF A DECADE
For the first time in four years, designer RobTop is releasing a new update for Geometry Dash, a music-based platformer that has been popular since the early 2010s. Early this year, several gamers grumbled that they had been waiting the longest time in the game’s history for a new update. On August 13th, it celebrated its seventh anniversary.
It gained widespread critical acclaim and a huge number of challenge runners at its initial release, thanks to its neon visual flair and appealing electronic soundtrack. The addition of user-generated levels improved the game’s appeal, and it’s been one of the best rhythm games for beginners, especially on smartphones, ever since.
Geometry Dash hasn’t had an update since 2017, as creator RobTop Games disclosed on Twitter and Reddit user ElHadouken pointed out.
Update 2.2 is the next update, and a preview video for it released on RobTop Games’ YouTube account at 4:00 PM EST on August 14th.
Surprisingly, the premiere trailer isn’t the only one for 2.2 on RobTop. RobTop also demonstrated new camera controls, a “Free Fly Mode,” a platformer mode similar to Super Mario Bros., and a few level editor tweaks. They’ve all got something to do with the recent upgrade.
While the news is wonderful, the majority of social media reactions have been negative of the extended delay that fans have had to undergo since 2.1. Geometry Dash’s community grew more active as the game’s updates became more regular and reliable.
WHEN IS THE GEOMETRY DASH 2.2 UPDATE RELEASE DATE?
RobTop Games has a history of hyping upcoming updates months before they are released. Work in progress photographs for update 2.0, for example, were shared on the developer’s social media accounts in December 2014, more than eight months before the update was released.
The same can be said with version 2.2, which fans have been waiting for for years. In February 2018, a cryptic graphic teasing a forthcoming song was released over three years ago. Last January, the developer teased a new level editing system on his YouTube channel, teasing capabilities like an auto-draw tool.
RobTop Games also had an icon design competition, which ended in December, after announcing on Twitter in October that “there will be another Icon Contest following 2.2.” Separately, the developer’s Twitch account has shown off a jet pack mode.
WHAT WILL GEOMETRY DASH 2.2 CONTAIN?
The developer hasn’t stated much about what the update would include, and hasn’t responded to our request for comment.
“The issue with 2.2 is that it’s a poor cycle,” says the author. I add things, and then it takes a long time, and expectations rise, so I add more… In a December 2019 discussion with GD Colon and members of the Geometry Dash community, the developer remarked, “I have a lot of new stuff.”
During the interview, the developer teased that the update would include a challenge mode, adding, “You won’t see other people and play with… You compete against one another but don’t see each other, so it’s like live multiplayer.” The style, though, was “still a little rough” at the time.
This early glimpse at the future upgrade was given to us in August 2021. Take a look at the video below.
WHEN WILL WE LEARN MORE ABOUT GEOMETRY DASH 2.2?
Keep an eye out for updates on the developer’s official social media platforms, and in the meanwhile, check out our list of the top Android games and greatest mobile puzzle games.
Surprisingly, the premiere isn’t the only trailer for 2.2 available on RobTop. The RobTopGames YouTube channel has already revealed several of the anticipated features for the next version. RobTop has also promised new camera controls, a “Free Fly Mode,” a platformer mode akin to Super Mario Bros., and a few level editor improvements. All of them have something to do with the recent update. While the announcement is exciting, much of the social media reaction has been critical of the long wait supporters have endured since 2.1. When Geometry Dash’s updates were more frequent and consistent, it naturally cultivated a more active community. The wait will likely come to an end shortly now that new content has been confirmed to be on the way, and players will be able to enjoy brand-new adventures in the rhythmic runner.
